HMO General Consents
Local authorities who wish to introduce additional Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licensing and selective licensing schemes for privately rented properties under the Housing Act 2004 currently require the approval of the Secretary of State. This paper seeks views on the introduction of a general consent to enable local authorities to introduce such schemes without seeking such approval. Local authorities would still be required to comply with the legislative requirements for introducing the schemes, such as providing the evidence base and conducting a full consultation.
This is a link to the full consultation paper, and the NFOPP’s response is attached.
